Nearly 20 years have passed since the biggest enlargement of the European Union. In 2004, all the V4 countries joined the EU on 1st of May 2004. This means that a generation has grown up without any memories outside of the EU. In all V4 countries, the EU membership was positively perceived and welcomed. But what is the situation now, in these instable, unpredictable days? How nowadays youth think about the EU and V4?
The more difficult times we live in, the more important it is to stick together, work together and cherish common values. It is also very important to develop the soft skills of young people. V4 countries’ education systems are different – according to the latest PISA results, the Polish one continues to stand out while Hungarian and Slovak academic performances keep slightly worsening. However, it is common that formal education mostly focuses on knowledge transfer, while it is becoming increasingly clear that work and life in the 21st century requires soft skills like flexibility, responsibility, sense of initiative, resilience, and agency. The last one is especially important in the digital spaces. Agency covers the ability to shape our environment, not only adapt to them and it is a key skill in the online world.
With this project, this is exactly we create, we offer: a state-of-the-art curriculum on new media awareness, an innovative learning mobility activity with significant local impacts, an extensive online campaign, and a guideline for those who want to create similar activities. With the products and activities we provide, young people in V4 countries can better understand and accept each other and become free from influencing attempts in the online spaces.
