Erasmus+ seminar “Youth for Active European Citizenship” gathered youth workers and community leaders from across Europe to exchange knowledge, share experiences and develop innovative approaches to fostering active citizenship among young people.
Throughout the program, participants explored the principles and practices of civic engagement in the European context, focusing on:
Democratic participation – strengthening young people’s role in decision-making processes at local, national and European levels.
European values – promoting solidarity, equality, human rights and respect for diversity as the foundation of a united Europe.
Intercultural dialogue – encouraging mutual understanding, tolerance and cooperation among youth from different cultural and social backgrounds.
The seminar combined interactive workshops, group discussions and best-practice sharing, providing participants with practical tools and methodologies to engage youth in their communities more effectively. Networking opportunities fostered long-term partnerships and support future Erasmus+ projects.
Organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ accreditation of Education Association World-Our Home, the project reflected the commitment to empowering youth workers and strengthening European cooperation in the field of non-formal education.
By the end of the seminar, participants not only had gained deeper insights into the meaning of active European citizenship but also were equipped to inspire and support young people in becoming active, responsible, and engaged citizens of Europe.

I returned home from the project with great experiences. We spent amazing days in a small city in Latvia, Rèzekne. The Erasmus project was a valuable and enriching adventure for me. I gained new skills and knowledge that will be useful in my future studies and career. The program allowed me to work with people from different cultures, which broadened my perspective. I really appreciated the well-organized activities and the supportive atmosphere. Participating in this project helped me become more confident and independent.

Participating in the “Youth for Active European Citizenship” seminar in Rezekne was a deeply valuable and inspiring experience for me. Throughout the programme, I had the chance to connect with participants from Latvia, Italy, Hungary, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Meeting so many people from different cultural backgrounds broadened my perspective and helped me develop strong intercultural communication skills.
The seminar on participation, democracy, and civic engagement was especially impactful. Working in international teams taught me how to collaborate effectively, share responsibilities, and approach problems with openness and creativity. We designed visual materials, exchanged ideas, and presented our outcomes—all in a very supportive and inclusive learning environment.
We also visited a local Youth Culture Centre in Rezekne, which gave me meaningful insights into youth work practices in Latvia. Beyond the workshops, we enjoyed exploring the city during our free time, discovering Rezekne’s cultural and historical sites, and learning more about the local community. One of the most memorable moments was the intercultural night, where each country shared its traditions, food, music, and stories. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of diversity and mutual understanding.
Overall, this seminar strengthened my motivation to stay active in youth work and advocate for democratic participation and social engagement among young people. It was an unforgettable experience that contributed greatly to my personal, social, and professional development.
I am truly grateful to Youth Bridges Budapest for selecting me to take part in this programme and giving me the opportunity to represent them.
