Newdigiship LLTA

Malta

From the 22nd to the 26th of January 2024, representatives of all partners of the project NEWDIGISHIP met up in Sliema, Malta to achieve a significant milestone. During the meetup we discussed the current standing of the project and all the remaining steps to be taken and we also got some valuable insight on the digital innovations and fresh entrepreneurial ideas and directions in Malta. And of course we also had the chance to witness some of the beauty of the local sights.

The meetup kicked off with a group dinner where the partners could further develop their connection and also settle into the groove of the week after their travels.

The next morning we held a project meeting discussing the milestones we have already reached for the project, evaluating and testing the ongoing processes (including our online training program for young entrepreneurs and an interactive mobile game teaching entrepreneurial concepts just to mention a few) and planning for the upcoming steps to be taken.

On the third day we took part in a panel talk titled 'Coastal Economies: Embracing Transformation' organised by our Maltese partner. A number of prominent guest speakers were invited including sailing competition directors, digital marketing experts, french fashion boutique owners and hotel chain innovation managers among others. The topics included digital and technological innovation for helping preserve the marine environment and improve the local maritime activities, the importance of digital tools and skills in managing and growing a retail business as well as working in one, as well as digital innovations to improve the efficiency and the customer experience of hotels and other touristic establishments.

The fourth day we were invited to the University of Malta, where representatives of the business incubator program TAKEOFF prepared a presentation for us about the program and a wide range of startup ideas including a cycling school letting locals feel freedom and get health benefits, a local craft brewery looking to create the first truly Maltese beer and a blockchain-based financial application were pitched to us by their creative up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

The fifth and final day was about exploring the capital, Valletta. We took part in a guided tour by a lovely lady and learned about the history and current state of the wonderful country of Malta. This was a fitting ending to the January milestone of the project NEWDIGISHIP.
