Asmaa in Ravenna

As my time with the European Solidarity Corps in Ravenna comes to an end, I look back on a period of incredible growth and connection.

What began as a thrilling yet overwhelming adventure in a new country quickly transformed into a deeply fulfilling experience I will always cherish.

Ravenna, with its rich history and vibrant culture, became my home. I am endlessly grateful to my welcoming team and new friends who showed me its beauty and made me feel part of the community from the very start.

The heart of my journey was volunteering at two youth centers.

Working with such curious and energetic children was a privilege. We balanced learning with fun—tackling summer homework in the mornings and heading to the beach for games and swimming in the afternoons during summer. They taught me as much as I hope I taught them, especially when it came to bridging the language gap with patience, laughter, and even a few Italian lessons from the kids themselves.

Beyond the centers, I enjoyed immersing myself in Italian life—from attending local events to simply enjoying piadina and gelato as the sun set. 

This experience was about more than volunteering; it was about living fully, learning constantly, and connecting deeply.

This chapter has left an indelible mark on me. Ravenna taught me about resilience, joy, and the beauty of embracing something new. I will carry its lessons and spirit with me always.
